The document intranet of a major research institute

A complete intranet for INRA: articles, a media library of indexed PDF archives with a thesaurus, a search engine and access rights linked to the LDAP directory.

The context

In 2007, INRA (the French National Institute for Agricultural Research, now INRAE) needed an intranet to share information between its teams and keep a large body of documentation easy to find.

What I built

  • Article publishing to share information internally.
  • A media library with PDF archiving: documents are centralised, classified and kept over time.
  • PDF indexing with a thesaurus: every document is linked to a controlled vocabulary, for consistent classification.
  • A search engine built on this indexing to find the right document quickly.
  • Access and rights management, linked to the institute’s LDAP directory: everyone signs in with their usual account and only sees what concerns them.

The outcome

A reliable, easy-to-use intranet that makes a large body of documentation accessible and secure for the teams.
